Dr. Jonathan Kua is a Senior Lecturer in the Internet of Things (IoT) at Deakin University’s School of Information Technology. He earned his PhD in Telecommunications Engineering in 2019 and a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Hons.) in Telecommunications and Network Engineering in 2014, both from Swinburne University of Technology.
His research interests include data transport protocols, adaptive multimedia streaming, low-latency networking for the Internet and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), artificial intelligence and machine learning for networking, software engineering for real-time cyber-physical systems, and the co-design of communication, computing, and control in Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems.
Dr. Kua has published extensively in reputable journals and conferences, with notable works such as “A survey of rate adaptation techniques for dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP” in the IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials and “Internet of things in space: a review of opportunities and challenges from satellite-aided computing to digitally-enhanced space living” in Sensors.
In his teaching role, Dr. Kua chairs and teaches units including Software Architecture and Scalability for Internet-of-Things, Developing Secure Internet-of-Things Applications, and Cloud Computing. He is also involved in professional activities, serving as a reviewer for several IEEE and ACM journals.
